I remember asking other people who had braces if their lips got stuck on their braces when they slept, my thought was that as you lay your head onto the pillow it would push your lips and gums into the metal and it would get stuck there.  Some said yes, and some said no…interesting. When I was fitted with braces I didn’t find my lips and gums stuck in them at all, when I was speaking a lot (not often of course…) and my mouth got a bit dry, my top lip kind of catches mid sentence…I don’t think other people ...

Adult Braces Journey – Surprising Bends

Apart from a little bit of lower crowing, I never really suspected just how much movement was required to correct my lower teeth until I saw that first wire threaded through the brackets. The wire track wobbled up and down like a snail trail on a wet road as the wire was forced to contort into the perfectly placed brackets.  Amazing…I was aware that my lower teeth had some uneven wear spots on them due to poor positioning, and that they were very tight in places and difficult to floss between, but this really demonstrated just how far out of alignment ...

Adult Braces Journey – Lower Braces

With my upper teeth in a more appropriate alignment, it was time to fit the lower braces. So again, I was plonked into the chair, reclined back and told to relax.  Relax…uh-huh….you have wizzy dentist things in my mouth again…as if! The good thing is that I knew all about the pumice, conditioner, wash process.  It is over quite quickly again, it just seeeeeems like forever when you are sitting there. The cardboard guard is put into place to stop the gums from rubbing against those lovely scrubbed clean teeth and after the brackets are positioned and cured with the light, the cardboard ...
